Ser vs. Estar
What is the difference between Ser and Estar?
Ser is used when something is permanent or of long lasting.
Estar is used to when something is temporary or location.
(With some exceptions)
Ser (to be)
Yo soy (I am)
Tú eres (You are)
El/ Ella/ Usted es (He is/ She is/ You are formal)
Ellos/ Ellas/ Ustedes son (They are/ Y'all are)
Nosotros somos (We are)
Estar (to be)
Yo estoy (I am)
Tú estás (You are)
El/ Ella/ Usted está (He is/ She is/ You are formal)
Ellos/ Ellas/ Ustedes están (They are/ Y'all are)
Nosotros estamos (We are)
Examples of the Week:
SER-
Yo soy la hermana de ellas. (I am their sister.)
la hermana = The sister ellas = them (female)
(This person is a girl and has sisters only)
ESTAR-
Él está en el carro. (He is in the car.)
Él = He en = in (location)
(Remember: carro= car and caro= expensive)
